Is MMO Combat Really That Bad?
I miss the days when the most exciting part about combat was reading the damage output text
Perhaps having grown up playing the original Everquest, I’m spoilt with combat in MMOs these days. I mean, one of my most beloved character in Everquest, a Warrior, had only two buttons to press when fighting, Taunt and Kick. And Kick was useless. People aren’t joking when they say that combat used to be a case of pulling a mob, turning on auto-attack and then going to make yourself a cup of t

The Magic Sword Online – Tencent expands martial arts MMO stable
//
While the Chinese name sounds more grand (天涯.明月.刀), the official English name is simply called The Magic Sword. Based on the Hong Kong classic by deceased novelist Gu Long, this MMO version will developed by 1 of Tencent’s studios, Aurora, and will be officially unveiled at the annual Tencent Games Festival later today. This is Tencent’s 3rd upcoming martial arts MMO, including Blade & Soul China.
Truth to be told, there is no information about the game no

Conclave
A reader sent me a link to an online turn-based tactical fantasy roleplaying game, called Conclave. It plays a bit like 4th edition D&D combat, but the story part is limited to scripted quests with a few multiple choice branches. The interesting part is that it is hard to solo, and thus you can group up with other players to make the fights easier, or to tackle more difficult quests.
The obvious disadvantage is that this group play is asynchronous, once you made your move you need to wait for t

FIFA Online 2 – Korean server shutting down in March
//
While Neowiz had a wonderful G*Star 2012, with Bless garnering a legion of fans, things are not so rosy business-wise. After getting into a messy court fight with developer Smilegate over the closure of online shooter CrossFire, the company was stabbed another blow after EA Seoul signed FIFA Online 3 to Nexon. The inevitable can’t be avoided, as it was announced last week that FIFA Online 2 will be closing on 31st March 2013 after the contract with EA ends.
It is unknown if EA

Steam sales
Yesterday's decision to not buy Borderlands 2 and Dishonored at 25% off on the Steam sale turned out to be brilliant, as today I was able to get them for 50% off. It would have been really annoying if I had bought them early and seen them cheaper the next day.
That somewhat made up for the game I physically threw in the garbage: World of Conflict (complete edition), which I had bought some time earlier, also on sale, but in a retail store. It turned out that the game wasn't quite as fun as I w
