Before I begin, do note that the videos found below are taken from a couple of Korean websites, and they are absolutely not mine. That settled, NCsoft recently added the Wave 2 (out of 7) update for Blade & Soul, Tower of Mushin. A solo-only dungeon, there are currently 7 levels, while more are hinted for the future. It seems the Korean players cleared this content in lightning speed!

Grocery list strategy

Riftstalker posted a build order for XCOM. It tells you what you need to build at what time to beat the strategy part of the game at high difficulty levels. The list isn't complete yet, but I don't doubt it is correct. I just wonder why I would want to play a game that has such a list. In the case of XCOM I found a way around, cheating the strategy part to enable me to concentrate on the tactical part. But that isn't always possible. That is why I would like to see that sort of grocery list str

Legend of Edda – Game revives in Korea under new publisher

//
After 19 months of laying dormant, Legend of Edda is set to be revived in Korea under the arms of MMO publisher, Yedang Online. Developer Eyasoft took a temporary break early last year to reorganize its business structure, with Nexon investing and the studio switching focus to just development.

While I am glad the game is back from the “dead”, I will have to question the choice of going with Yedang Online, with the company axing Priston Tale 2 in Korea and still relying o

Project: Gorgon

Yeebo has a detailed description of the indie MMO Project: Gorgon in its pre-alpha state. There appear to be a lot of interesting new ideas in the game. But I'm an old cynic and not very optimistic that the game will make it to release: The Kickstarter of Project: Gorgon is just 5 days away from the deadline, and only has about 20% gathered of the $ 55,000 needed. Not many people believe you can make a MMORPG for $ 55k, but if you want to make a charitable donation to a man with a dream ...

I've been playing through XCOM: Enemy Unknown several times. There aren't many games I'm willing to play more than once these days, so this is a sign of quality. But when you play the game repeatedly, there are inevitably parts you like less and others you like more. The part I like the most is the tactical battles on various maps. The urban maps are varied and well done. The rural maps not so much, there is basically just one map with different colors but the same elevation and tree features.

How to get rich not playing Guild Wars 2

I have too many other games and am not currently playing Guild Wars 2. But today I logged on to check the prices of Mystic Coins. They were at over 4 silver each. Which was good news, because I had bought 200 of them for 1 silver each before I stopped playing GW2. So I made a quick 6 gold profit not playing. I still think the Guild Wars 2 economy is rather weird.

EverQuest Next: Return Of The Sandbox

We don't know much about EQNext but I'm pretty sure its box cover art will feature women warriors in metal bikinis
Word on the street is that Everquest Next is going to be a sandbox MMO, a huge one by all accounts. Colour me surprised. Just as I thought SOE were out of tricks, they go and play a blinder on us. I was honestly prepared for the next installment of my beloved EQ franchise to be yet another attempt at a themepark WoW clone. Good for SOE.

Of course, I’m sure some will s

[G*Star 2012] Icarus – WeMade reveals star attraction

//
First announced back in 2009 and known as NED: The New Era of Fantasy, Korean MMO publisher and developer WeMade Entertainment brought the game back to the drawing board for a couple more years of fine tuning. Developed using CryEngine 3, the game has now changed its name to Icarus, and will be the company’s main title at G*Star 2012. The only new detail known is the emphasis on mounted combat, both aerial and land. More information to come once the event begins next month.

What started out as just an internal ambitious project has now spawned a totally new subsidiary studio with over a hundred staff working on the Unreal Engine 3 title. It seems the booth this year will just focus only on Bless, and nothing else.

There will be demo stations for Bless, which is good news since it means the game might be stepping towards a Clo

Parallel development

This weekend I finished my first game of XCOM. And I couldn't help but notice that way before the end I had reached a tipping point: Suddenly I had enough money for everything, and some of the battles became rather easy due to the experience and gear of my soldiers. Basically XCOM is a game of parallel development: You get stronger, and the aliens get stronger in parallel. The side who gets stronger the fastest ultimately wins. But as the challenge of the game depends on the difference in stats

Lucky dice do exist!

Good news for all pen & paper roleplayers: We aren't completely crazy, all the myths about some dice being luckier than others are true. Dice with rounded edges are indeed not perfect, and certain numbers can thus appear up to 20% more or 20% less than average, because of how the dice are "tumbled" to round the edges. Nevertheless the claims of Gamescience that their dice with sharp edges are superior because giving a result closer to randomness have hit a snag: Due to these dice having a c

Different approaches to story

Having played this year Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, and Mists of Pandaria, I couldn't help but notice how different the approach to story is in these games. SWTOR is the most story-obsessed, you are basically always following your story or some NPC story, and everything is animated with cut scenes and voice-overs. Mists of Pandaria has every player play through the same story at the start, and then you basically get to choose what NPC stories to follow by choosing where to quest;

The next Closed Beta phase was announced yesterday, although undated now. A new trailer for the Dragonette class can be seen below.

Top Five Things From WoW That Need to Step on a Lego

There have been a lot of changes in WoW since the last time I played. A lot of these are pretty great, but some are not-so-great. Here’s my own personal list of the not-so-great:
5. Lack of Hunter Stat Sticks
I’m fine with getting rid of minimum range (good luck getting me to break the habit of keeping range though), but how am I supposed to carry both Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle AND Legacy now? Pike is not impressed.

Kickstarter failure

Normally the failure of a small independent game with a measly $ 29k budget wouldn't cause any headlines. But when Haunts: The Manse Macabre failed, the news were all over the internet. Because Haunts had been funded by 1214 backers on Kickstarter. It doesn't look like there was a scam or anything, but making a video game is always a risky business. And now this project will either need to find a white knight to rescue it, or just be dead.

Patch 8.1 makes an interesting change to World of Tanks: The so-called "gold ammo" will be made available for credits, the currency that can be earned without paying money for it. Gold ammo, while never in widespread use, was the one item some people claimed made World of Tanks a "pay to win" game. But as many other examples show, people consider "pay to win" only to be the case if something can *only* be bought with cash.

The only thing remaining available for cash are certain premium tanks.

4th edition Dungeons & Dragons standard rules don't have "facing", it is supposed that somebody can turn around quick enough so that "attacking him from the back" rules aren't necessary.
