Do note that the processes of building houses and acquiring ships are not as easy as they seem in the video… It is definitely a lot tougher in the actual game.

As I teased on my Facebook page a couple of days back, I was playing in the Alpha phase of a new China-developed MOBA, where manga characters such as Luffy, Usopp, Ultraman, Saber and even Disney ones such as Wall-E and Shrek are playable characters. The game is call 300 Heroes, and it is still in its Alpha phase with the servers only opening for 2 hours each day. There are also self-designed characters, from Three Kingdoms and various other places.

A reader sent me a link to an online turn-based tactical fantasy roleplaying game, called Conclave. It plays a bit like 4th edition D&D combat, but the story part is limited to scripted quests with a few multiple choice branches. After getting into a messy court fight with developer Smilegate over the closure of online shooter CrossFire, the company was stabbed another blow after EA Seoul signed FIFA Online 3 to Nexon. Announced last year as Tencent Games’ first game with global rights, Sura Online is still more than a year away from the scheduled release date (2014). Announced last year as the maiden title by Korean developer NSE Entertainment, the trailer for TGC 2012 showcases an actual fight demo with 1 of the giant bosses, Mountain Guardian.

As Stubborn was sending me Thanksgiving thanks, I would like to return the favor. Especially since his post helped me make a decision I was pondering. You might have heard that Planetside 2 just came out, and I've been reading about the game and wondering whether I should play. The game may also be downloaded for free, and will share the same server as those playing on the PC version. A couple months more before Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn enters Closed Beta, the official videos from the Alpha client are keeping the anticipation levels high. This time round, it is showing the lush woods surrounding the city of Gridania.

RIFT Korea, in a supposed desperate attempt to save sliding player numbers, has announced that the game’s first 49 levels will Free-to-Play for everyone, with no content restriction starting from 20th November. It seems that the campaign held 4 months back did not manage to effectively produce the required results.

RIFT China – Protesters claiming unpaid wages

While RIFT celebrates its mega expansion in North America, the game is not doing too well in Asia, first Korea and now China. According to today’s local news, the 3rd party group which translated the game claimed publisher Shanda Games of owing them nearly CNY 460,000 (USD 73,770.80) in unpaid wages.
This is the 2nd time the group has protested outside of Shanda Games’ office building, having done so as well last week. Shanda Games has not given an official reply thus far

Dungeon Hero – Japan server begins Closed Beta signup

Japanese MMO portal, GameHeart, announced that signups for Closed Beta 1 will begin later today. Back in Korea, Dungeon Hero will be entering Alpha test 2 today as well. Developed by Eyasoft, of Luna Online and Legend of Edda fame, Dungeon Hero will focus mostly on defeating dungeons, while adding several PvP modes into the otherwise cute-looking game.

After going down since March this year, there hasn’t been news on Lime Odyssey for over 8 months. Earlier today, it was revealed that Lime Odyssey Korea will finally be revived, with the publisher being Daum Communications, 1 of the largest online portals in the country. GameFuse – ChangYou’s new online games portal

China MMO developer and publisher, ChangYou, has been rather quiet over the past few months. After announcing its financial earnings in China for 3Q 2012, which propelled the company to the no.3 spot in the country, the Western subsidiary announced a brand new gaming portal, GameFuse.
All of the company’s self-developed games, such as Dragon Oath, is currently missing from the roster. I managed to play in the very first Cbt of Renaissance Heroes, which you can see here. Hopeful

The Secret World Issue #4 Preview Trailer
The Secret World‘s next update is just around the corner, and Issue #4 will be the largest influx of content yet. Titled ‘Big Trouble in the Big Apple’, Issue #4 is bringing the first raid to The Secret World as players take on dark beings in New York City, leading up to a huge showdown in Times Square.
Other changes are coming with this update, including an optional change to ranged combat. Check out the video below and see what’s in store.

Darkfall Unholy Wars Release Pushed Back
The November 20th release date for Darkfall Unholy Wars has been pushed back to December 12th. A combination of external factors, last minute issues, and testing feedback have come together to force this change in schedule.
Plans are still in place to take the current Darkfall game offline on November 15th.

I don’t think I worded my last post the way I wanted to. I knew it was kind of a wonky post as I was writing it but then I hit “Publish” anyway. Ah well. The ultimate point that I was trying to make is that for a player like me, the current rep system works, but what may work for me probably does not work for everyone. Furthermore I was trying to point out that, well, dailies have always been boring.
This is why we should fix the system entirely.

Mabinogi II: Arena caused lots of chatting in the gaming community since revealed last week, with both negative and positive sentiments clashing worldwide. No matter the feeling, Mabinogi II: Arena is the actual sequel of Mabinogi and Mabinogi Heroes.
In the first video since G*Star 2012, developer DevCat (under Nexon) is showcasing the sword and shield combat demo, without the environment. I am expecting the other 3 weapon setups to have videos soon as well.

The information is in Japanese, as Nexon is stock listed in the Tokyo Stock Exchange. As you can see, there are several games for launch in 2013. Running XCOM in endless mode
By default XCOM: Enemy Unknown is running in a story mode, where you doing the main missions is driving the story and the alien invasion forwards. That has two major disadvantages: The story is always the same. And the story isn't actually that great, especially the end being weak. The reason I used “revealed” and not “announced” is due to the fact Rohan II was only known to visitors of YNK Interactive’s business booth, far away from the prying eyes of the general public. In development for over 6 years, L&K Logic Korea finally revealed the sequel to the 2004 hit MMORPG, Red Stone. Red Stone 2: Adventurers of Prominence, takes place 100 years after the original, and it is now a full 3D MMORPG rather than a 2D one. [G*Star 2012] Black Desert – Preparing to launch next year

Even though PearlAbyss, developer of the upcoming Black Desert, did not have an appearance in the consumer hall, the Korean media still managed to get treated to some eye candy back in the business hall. A short interview was carried out by Inven Korea, and here is a quick summary for this awesome looking MMORPG from the folks who made Continent of the Ninth.

Just a couple of hours ago, Disney Interactive officially signed a contract with Korean developer, Smilegate, for the development of a MOBA title based on Marvel characters. If you do not know, MOBA means Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, a term coined by Riot Games, developer of League of Legends.
Codenamed as Project PK (or PK Project), this Marvel MOBA is currently targeted just at Asia (similar to Call of Duty Online), with a scheduled release set in 2014. Seen above is TQ Jeffers

Blade & Soul – Winner of Korea Game Awards 2012

At the annual Korea Game Awards just a few hours ago, an event which happens before the day G*Star begins, NCsoft’s Blade & Soul won the prestigious Presidential Award (similar to Game of the Year). This is the 3rd NCsoft MMO in recent years to nab this award, joining Lineage 2 and Aion. Blade & Soul also won 3 other major awards as well. Below is a list of other winners (skipped some unknown games).

NCsoft – Guild Wars 2 tops global sales for 3Q 2012

Releasing its 3Q 2012 earnings report earlier today, NCsoft made a significant increase in global games sales compared to the previous quarter. Coming top of the list is Guild Wars 2, which topped even the mega-hot Blade & Soul. However, it is important to note that Guild Wars 2 is available in virtually the whole English market (no Korean server), while Blade & Soul is only available in Korea.

Earlier yesterday, Activision Shanghai invited a small group of the media to its office, and the aim was to be treated to Call of Duty Online’s preview. A couple of game details were explained, including gameplay modes and features. Below is a quick breakdown of what was introduced during this exclusive session. Published by Tencent Games, there is no beta date announced for now.

Daybreak – First impression of the new action MMORPG

So, after China developer announced Daybreak as an action MMORPG, playable on both browser and client, and signed contracts to publish the game worldwide, I couldn’t wait to give the game a try in the Chinese server. Yes, it is a competitor of Dragon Nest, where player numbers and revenue has dropped drastically in the world’s biggest MMORPG market. But is Daybreak any good? Let’s find out.
The good
1. Tons of features in Daybreak from the first public client
So, after China developer announced Daybreak as an action MMORPG, playable on both browser and client, and signed contracts to publish the game worldwide, I couldn’t wait to give the game a try in the Chinese server. Yes, it is a competitor of Dragon Nest, where player numbers and revenue has dropped drastically in the world’s biggest MMORPG market. But is Daybreak any good? Let’s find out.

While many see it as Mabinogi Heroes 2 (or Vindictus 2), I say we should give the game the benefit of the doubt for now, as I am certainly sure not all features are revealed yet. Can’t wait for the game!

EIN: Epicus Incognitus – Game to appear only in B2B area

As most of you would have known, gaming conventions are usually divided into the Business to Consumers (B2C) and Business to Business (B2B) sections. EIN: Epicus Incognitus was 1 of Neowiz Games’ major G*Star title last year, but this year, it will only be shown to business partners in the secretive B2B section. Developed using Unreal Engine 3, the same as Bless, EIN also tells the story of 2 warring factions, where each faces further internal wars.

Supposedly to be added at a much later date, in fact the last of the 7waves update, Sword Master Lyn (or Blademaster) has been bumped up to the 3rd wave, with the release date being 7th November, which is exactly 2 days from now.
It seems that the developer intended to give everyone a surprise, and apparently some of the gamers are raging about this sudden announcement. Nevertheless, this new class will probably be everywhere come this Wednesday.

It used to be fun
I cancelled my World of Warcraft subscription this weekend, it runs out end of this month. When you do that, Blizzard asks you why you want to quit. And as in every survey, the available answers never cover what you really think. I went for the "The game used to be fun, but isn't any more" answer, with the "I don't like daily quests" sub-option. But that paints a somewhat distorted picture. It would be more accurate to say that I burned out of MMORPG combat in general.

FIFA Online 3 – Nexon spending big on marketing

Nexon has been heavily promoting FIFA Online 3, including having a section for it at the coming G*Star 2012 show. While I am not sure why Nexon is promoting the game in England, the gaming giant has signed a sponsorship deal with English Premier League club, Swansea City AFC. Another reason will be having a Korean player at the club, Ki Sung-Yeung, who just signed in August.

I remember the first time I ever logged into a MMO. It was 1999, the game was EverQuest and I was on a 64kb dial-up modem connected via a, get this, pay-by-the-minute ISP (cue accidental £300 phone bill). What seems old hat now seemed incredible to me then and I still recall the first few moments of stepping into Norrath and the surge of excitement I felt at bumping into my first ever MMO player. I’ll never forget jumping up out

Eden Entertainment, known for its “Devil May Cry” online game, Lune of Eden, is apparently working on its 2nd title, a secretive Project Gigantic. I am not sure how the Chinese media got hold of the trailer, since there is nothing reported in the Korean media and the company is only slated to be present in the business area of G*Star 2012. Nonetheless, Project Gigantic seems like a MMORPG about defeating GAM, or Gigantic Ass Monsters.
