PLA (CN) - The official Chinese army game
First announced back in September last year (link), the game has finally gotten an official name, PLA, which apparently stands for "Passion Leads Army". Developed by Giant Interactive together with the Chinese military, it is no doubt a simple twist on People's Liberation Army (PLA). Switching back and forth between discussing MMORPGs and pen & paper roleplaying games made me realize where my personal position towards the famous "Bartle types" of MMORPG players stems from. It is my very first time posting about a Russian (RU) online game, and it is special because I personally played S.T.A.L.K.E.R and this small blog apparently has many visitors from Russia as well. I don't normally air my views on certain topics as a separate post, but there will still be exceptions from time to time. NCsoft, to the surprise of many, revealed the Summoner class to much fanfare, but I can guarantee you that no one outside NCsoft would have foresee the kitty cat mania which followed. No doubt the over-cute design might be out of place and attract negative comments from everywhere, but when was the last time a MMO company pulled of such an amusing and entertaining "stunt"?

My D&D 4E campaign is between adventures, and I'm entering my player's choices into their character sheets, leveling them up from level 1 to level 2. The embattled mega Japanese corporation, which is undergoing massive restructuring to cut losses, has filed a patent for a program that would, as the source states, "encourage gamers to head into the daylight for organized events where everyone knows your online name." Asura (CN) - Single-player mode confirmed
[More info] Asura was first announced in China back in 2010, and it was solely an online game. I suppose in an effort to spoil Diablo III's upcoming launch party in China, the country's biggest online game operator Tencent Games has got to do something about it. I played Hero Academy on my iPod Touch all evening yesterday. The bad news is that I didn't manage to finish a single game. Worst case was a game in which my opponent never ever made a single move. Guild Wars was one of the rare 3D MMORPG which my brother enjoyed playing (he actually plays MapleStory primarily) and he really can't wait to join Guild Wars 2's beta. Garena signs Club Mstar for Southeast Asia
Garena has always been known to be more of a company hosting PvP games such as Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends and most recently Firefall (link) in the Asia region, hence today's news came as a surprise to me. Metal Assault is shutting down

BioWare just announced that its free-to-play MMO game Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes has entered open beta.Wrath of Heroes is mostly focused on a PvP where three teams of 6 players (6v6v6) battle it out on the arena with an eclectic cast of characters from the Warhammer universe. So I managed to finish Red Dead Redemption over the Easter weekend. One trick I used was a way to get basically infinite money without using a cheat code: Save game, play high-stakes poker, reload if you lose, save game if you win, rinse, lather, repeat. Starbreeze’s new game is free-to-play
The Swedish studio Starbreeze revealed that their next game is going to be free-to-play. The title of the game is Cold Mercury and no additional details were announced on it. TERA Taiwan reveals monthly fee
TERA will be hitting Taiwan next after Korea, Japan and North America, and at the publisher OMG's company event, the CEO (pictured below) candidly talked about some details behind thrashing a deal with developer Bluehole Studio. Apparently, Bluehole Studio stood by a monthly fee of TWD 650 (USD 22) which OMG strongly opposed. As a final resolution, the monthly fee for TERA Taiwan will now be TWD 500 (USD 17) instead.
